The present exhibition was planned as an attempt of a dialogue. It is aimed at lifting up a veil, at revealing what is hidden beyond a false knowledge, naked facts, actually telling nothing, the works presented on the exhibition, may seem to tell little about our country. And, in fact, they do not narrate much. But we do not intend to unfold a king of historical-geographical-cultural-ethnographical panorama of Georgia. We thought it far more significant to show something hardly expressible in words, which displays the soul and spirit of the nation, its genuine essence.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I am trying to work out who I am through painting. Interestingly, the process helps me understand my origin and roots that go back to my ancestors as well. I am Belorussian, whereas my grandmothers came from Petersburg. This has also conditioned the specifics of my art. I think the fairy world and esthetics must be inherited from grandmothers, and the forest ghosts, dwarves, and elements of folk culture come from Belorussia. The fact that I was born and have been living in Georgia is also very important.\u00a0 Its environment, colors, culture have greatly influenced my art. I am not in search of anything particular, it just comes by itself \u2013 and whatever comes is what is given to you. If this is exhausted, one becomes a captive of one\u2019s own achievements and works. One should be able to give up the achieved. Probably being an artist is not a job but rather a state of the soul.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 My utmost interest is eternity… I am for eternal topics that involve intense emotions and drama\u2026I touch on the topic of death as well\u2026 with sympathy. I try to make it easier, to soften it through grotesque\u2026\u00a0\u00a0 I want to stop the viewers and remind them of such important feelings as pain, loneliness, beauty, love, etc. thus trying to switch their minds from temporary to eternal.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A picture should contain mystery. It should not be revealing everything, so that questions that remain take you back to the picture. I try to observe this principle in all my works, because what matters to me are the contents, idea and feeling and painting serves this aim. Painting without a concept or idea is unacceptable to me.<\/p>\n
