The positional and emotional basis of Tutu Kiladze\u2019s work lies in the na\u00efve modernist paradigm of play, the primitivistic schema of the Avant-garde, the reflection of a Dadaist toy horse, and the freedom of children’s drawings, all manifested by the purest individual signature of the author. Freedom that is characteristic of childhood; the sense of safety, security and splendor of the world, and at the same time a tender connection between humans and things; the ability to turn objects into toys, and the pleasure of playing shape the structure of the artist\u2019s works. Kiladze legitimizes safe territories for her characters: turning terrains that do not possess geographical dimension but rather imply a temporal category into models of world perception related to the childhood phase and na\u00efve images. The author opts for long perspectives to depict landscapes and scenes. She always presents streets, fields, forests, squares, or conditional colored planes from a distance, so as to produce large spatial shots or smaller scenes filled with figures scattered like beads from a broken necklace. In this way, Kiladze creates a general dynamic flow, and what is most astonishing, manages to reproduce the movements and facial expressions of the miniature beings with amazing virtuosity \u2013 an almost impossible task to accomplish owing to the sheer distance of the images\u2019 viewpoint. The artist paints the specific gestures or features of conditional schematic outlines that convey the emotional signals to resonantly transport the audience back to childhood, filling its members with a feeling of happiness and thus achieving the main mission of art \u2013 \u00a0to conduct a mental and emotional transmission; to reveal the secret of transition and transformation.<\/p>\n
The artist\u2019s works combine the essence of Alice in Wonderland, a magical ritual, and the power of play. The figures and parodies of the bodies, facial expressions and gestures, together with the landscapes and primitivistic deformed objects are reminiscent of children’s drawings. They display colorful fairy tales with blue waves, rippling pools, snowflakes, and flashes of sunlight; as well as toy horses, goldfishes, nude bathers, amusing animals, colorful meadows, fountains and splashes of water.<\/p>\n
The magic of Tutu Kiladze\u2019s works strangely transforms into paper abstractions and cryptograms with the series \u201cThe Letters\u201d, where the artist applied a combination of interwoven lines, letters and drawings in order to create large-scale images of a Lettrist stylization. The large formats represent linear labyrinths of neurons, the expressive formulae of automatic writing, networks of repeated actions, and web woven with the \u201ccomplex metastructure of the soul\u201d that the artist attempts to escape with the help of bright childhood images.<\/p>\n
The \u201cTale of Ceramics\u201d features Tutu Kiladze’s painted ceramic tiles (70 pieces) and Goika Mouchiashvili’s decorative forms (12 pieces). Tutu Kiladze has been working on combining ceramics and painting for a long time. These works, made of fireclay tiles and covered with brightly glazed surfaces and mosaic textures, represent interesting examples of new possibilities for painting and ceramics.<\/p>\n
