Gayane Khachatrian
Gayane Khachatrian (1942 – 2009) is an Armenian artist who was born in Tbilisi and lived and worked in Georgia.
In the artist’s works, dreams, fairy tales, and symbols are saturated with the traditions of Qajar painting, Georgian frescoes, and Persian miniatures and demonstrate the style of contemporary drawing. Through this knowledge, stunning imagination, and interpretations of her world, Gayane Khachatrian creates a complex system of artistic images that channels her work into a stream of magical realism similar to Marc Chagall and Frida Kahlo. Her independent status focuses on a model of turning life into a carnival, making strong contrasting “sound” a nonconformist position of art from the Soviet period. The ascetic and introverted lifestyle created a paradoxical contrast with the artist’s popularity and international recognition.
“Silence is emptiness, and I love filled emptiness. I think every person has his own box of emptiness, which he fills to make life easier,” – Gayane Khachatrian.
The artist gained international recognition after the 1980s, when her works were posthumously presented at the 53rd Venice Biennale.
Khachatrian’s works are preserved in the museums of Georgia and Armenia, as well as in private collections in Georgia and beyond its borders.
Gayane Khachatrian’s works, which are presented and sold at the Baia Gallery, come from private collections. They are preserved in the gallery’s storage and are not on display.

გაიანე ხაჩატრიანი (1942 – 2009) თბილისში დაბადებული სომეხი მხატვარი. ცხოვრობდა და მოღვაწეობდა საქართველოში.
მის ნამუშევრებში სიზმრების, ზღაპრების, სიმბოლოების რეალიზაცია გაჯერებულია ყაჯარული ფერწერის, ქართული ფრესკების, სპარსული მინიატურების ტრადიციებითა და თანამედროვე მხატვრობის სტილისტიკით. გაიანე ხაჩატრიანი ამ ცოდნით, განსაცვიფრებელი ფანტაზიითა და პერსონალური სამყაროს ინტერპრეტაციებით ქმნის მხატვრული სახეების რთულ სისტემას, რომელიც მარკ შაგალის და ფრიდა კალოს მსგავსად მის შემოქმედებას მაგიური რეალიზმის მიმდინარეობის ნაკადში აქცევს. ცხოვრების კარნავალიზაციის მოდელი მისი საავტორო სტატუსია, რომლის კონტრასტული და ძლიერი „ჟღერადობა“ ნონკონფორმისტულ პოზიციად აღიქმებოდა საბჭოთა პერიოდის ხელოვნებაში. ცხოვრების ასკეტური და ჩაკეტილი სტილი პარადოქსულ კონტრასტს ქმნიდა მხატვრის პოპულარულობასთან და საერთაშორისო აღიარებასთან.
“სიჩუმე სიცარიელეა, მე კი გავსებული სიცარიელე მიყვარს. ვფიქრობ, ყველა ადამიანს საკუთარი სიცარიელის ყუთი აქვს. იგი მას სპეციალურად ავსებს, რათა ცხოვრება გაიადვილოს,” – გაიანე ხაჩატრიანი.
საერთაშორისო აღიარება 1980-იანი წლებიდან. სიკვდილის შემდეგ მისი ნამუშევრები წარდგენილი იყო ვენეციის 53-ე ბიენალეზე.
ხაჩატრიანის ნამუშევრები დაცულია საქართველოსა და სომხეთის მუზეუმებში, საქართველოსა და უცხოეთის კერძო კოლექციებში.
გაიანე ხაჩატრიანის ნამუშევრები ბაია გალერეაში წარმოდგენილია კერძო კოლექციებიდან და იყიდება. ეს ნამუშევრები დაცულია გალერეის საცავში, არ არის გამოფენილი.
