David Kakabadze 130
September, 2019
Alexander Chavchavadze House – Museum, Tsinandali, Kakheti
The David Kakabadze Foundation within the framework of the Tsinandali Festival, with the support of TBC Status, is presenting an exhibition combining the works of Kakabadze from various private collections. Exhibition visitors will see the works from Paris and the social realism periods, the Imereti series, and single graphic sketches.
David Kakabadze is considered one of the founders of Georgian modernist art. He also worked to combine art and science. His works are founded on the knowledge gained from art history and culture studies. To revive the form of Georgian art, Kakabadze brought together various ideas from Western and Eastern cultures in his art.
The exhibition is a part of David Kakabadze’s 130th anniversary long-running series. It is an ongoing year-long project and aims to uncover unknown aspects of Kakabadze’s legacy, increase the availability of a broader collection and reconsider separate historical narratives.
The exhibition planned within the framework of the Tsinandali Festival expands our understanding of David Kakabadze’s works and presents the works unknown to the public. In this way, the David Kakabadze Foundation seeks to create a broader vision about his significance and development in Georgian art history.
