Presenting works of Georgian artists at international auctions is a crucial phenomenon.

International art market and Georgian art are fascinating topics, and Merab Abramishvili is a consistent participant.

From 2016 until now, 52 works of Merab Abramishvili have been presented at international auctions, of which 36 have been sold. The history of sales of the artist is distinguished by increasing index of price and rating. It is a successful project implemented by Baia Gallery – branding and establishing an artist’s place in the international art market.

The auction history of the artist’s works is connected with the Sotheby’s London exhibition – “At the Crossroads” 2013-2014, where works of Merab Abramishvili – “Man-Eater of Kumaon” and “Paradise” were sold. After this fact, Merab Abramishvili became a permanent participant in auctions, according to which the history of international sales of his works was created, which, although far behind the indicators of the local art market, is compelling and should be taken into account in the creation of the price index. It was the international auction institution that determined the consistent and growing process of the sales history of Abramishvili’s works, and the artist’s work acquired the status of a solid and reliable investment. The works of Merab Abramishvili, which are particularly interesting as an example of the synthesis of Eastern and Western culture, became a field of international interest.

According to auction results, the highest price was recorded in 2023, at Bonhams, London auction – “Black Panther”, 55 x 75 cm. – € 89,630 (£ 76,600), and in 2016 at Sotheby’s, London – “Three Hundred Aragvians,” 74.5 x 74.5 cm. – €79,413 (£62,500). The average price of the artist’s works at international auctions ranges from £20,000 to £50,000.

Merab Abramishvili is represented by Baia Gallery – locally and internationally. It is one of the most successful projects of the gallery, which has gained international recognition.
