Guranda Klibadze – From the Gallery to a Private Collection

Guranda Klibadze is a contemporary Georgian artist known primarily for her monumental, large-scale works.
Her compositions immediately capture the viewer’s attention through their scale, often extending across several metres and fully covering the surface of the paper or canvas. This is by no means accidental: working on such a large scale allows Klibadze to capture an entire process of action within a single image. The fluid, expressive merging of moving figures recalls the principles of chronophotography. In her work, a single brushstroke no longer depicts just one specific moment – it suggests a longer process, evoking the dynamics of movement and a sense of time unfolding.

Traditional photography, and painting in this context, usually captures a single fixed instant. Chronophotography works differently: it brings together different phases of movement within one space, as if several moments had been layered on top of one another. The image is no longer a frozen frame – it becomes an expression of movement, transformation, and the continuous passage of time.

This is exactly what defines Klibadze’s artistic language. Her figures and forms never seem to settle into a single moment; they exist in constant motion. Within one image, she brings together different emotional and physical states, so that the figures read not as static representations but as impressions of movement and transformation. In her monumental compositions, movement becomes part of the painting process itself – bold brushstrokes, dynamic lines, and the rhythmic arrangement of forms create a distinctive, striking visual language.

The artist primarily works with typographical paint. The material itself dictates rapid, spontaneous brushstrokes, where correcting a mistake is practically impossible. As a result, each work becomes a kind of direct record of the artist’s movement.

From the Gallery to Private Collection

For the exhibition ‘Kings and Royal Gardens’, Klibadze created a cycle of battle scenes with no colour at all. Working only in black and white, she arranged her figures across large sheets of paper in an open, undefined space, where the black line stands out in sharp contrast.

‘Kings’, a monumental triptych in typographical paint on paper (150 × 945 cm.) stands out in particular. For the artist, it is an exploration of the archetype of power. Its expressive plasticity, dynamic composition, and monumental scale give the figures a distinctive energy, so they read as both real and mythological beings at once. Rather than depicting a specific historical event, the work offers a symbolic reflection on the timeless nature of humanity and power.

The work was first shown in April 2024 at Baia Gallery’s Contemporary Art Space (68 A. Razmadze Street), as part of the exhibition Kings and Royal Gardens – a significant show, marking the artist’s first major solo exhibition since 2015.

This work, along with several other paintings, later moved from the exhibition space into private collections. It is fascinating to see how artworks change meaning once they leave the exhibition context. In a gallery, they exist in dialogue with other works and with the curator’s concept; in a private home, they become independent focal points, part of everyday life – a quiet continuation of the very transformation and movement that define Klibadze’s work itself.

გურანდა ქლიბაძე თანამედროვე ქართველი მხატვარია, რომლის შემოქმედების მთავარ მიმართულებას მისი მონუმენტური, დიდი ზომის ნამუშევრები წარმოადგენს.

მხატვრის ნამუშევრები დამთვალიერებელის ყურადღებას მასშტაბურობით იქცევს. მისი კომპოზიციები ხშირად რამდენიმე მეტრზეა გაშლილი და ქაღალდს ან ტილოს მთლიანად ითვისებს. ეს არჩევანი შემთხვევითი არ არის – დიდი ფორმატი გურანდა ქლიბაძეს საშუალებას აძლევს ერთ სურათში მოაქციოს მოქმედების სრული პროცესი. ექსპრესიული, მოძრავი ფიგურების ერთმანეთში გადადინება ქრონოფოტოგრაფიულ მეთოდს მოგვაგონებს. მხატვართან ფუნჯის ერთი მონასმი აღარ აღიქმება მხოლოდ კონკრეტული მომენტის გამოსახულებად, ის უფრო ხანგრძლივ პროცესს, მოძრაობის დინამიკასა და დროის უწყვეტობის განცდას აჩენს.

თუ ტრადიციული ფოტოგრაფია, და ამ შემთხვევაში ნახატიც, ხშირად ერთ კონკრეტულ წამს აფიქსირებს, ქრონოფოტოგრაფიული აღქმა დროს უფრო დინამიკურად წარმოაჩენს, ერთ სივრცეში აერთიანებს მოძრაობის სხვადასხვა ფაზას, თითქოს რამდენიმე მომენტი ერთმანეთზეა “გადაწერილი”.

სწორედ ეს მიდგომა განსაზღვრავს გურანდა ქლიბაძის მხატვრულ ენას, მის ნამუშევრებში ფიგურები და ფორმები თითქოს ერთ კონკრეტულ მომენტში არ ჩერდებიან და მუდმივად მოძრაობენ. მხატვარი ერთ გამოსახულებაში აერთიანებს სხვადასხვა ემოციურ და ფიზიკურ მდგომარეობას, რის შედეგადაც ფიგურები მხოლოდ სტატიკურ გამოსახულებად აღარ აღიქმება და მოძრაობისა და ცვლილების შთაბეჭდილებას ტოვებს. ქლიბაძის მონუმენტურ კომპოზიციებში მოძრაობა ფერწერული პროცესის ნაწილია. ფუნჯის გაბედული მონასმები, დინამიკური ხაზები და ფორმების რიტმული განლაგება ქმნის უნიკალურ, შთამბეჭდავ მხატვრულ ენას.

მხატვრი ძირითადად ტიპოგრაფიული საღებავით მუშაობს.  ეს მასალა თავისთავად კარნახობს სწრაფმონასმებს, სადაც შეცდომის გამოსწორება პრაქტიკულად შეუძლებელია, ამიტომ ყოველი ნამუშევარიერთგვარი პირდაპირი ჩანაწერია მხატვრის მოძრაობისა.

გალერეიდან კერძო კოლექციაში

გურანდა ქლიბაძემ გამოფენისთვის „მეფეები და სამეფო ბაღები“ ბრძოლის სცენების ციკლი შექმნა, სადაც მხატვარმა სრულად გამორიცხა ფერი და შავისა და თეთრის მონაცვლეობით დიდი ფორმატის ქაღალდებზე, თავისუფალ, განუსაზღვრელ სივრცეში განალაგა ფიგურები. სივრცეში, რომელშიც შავი ხაზი მკვეთრად და კონტრასტულად ჟღერს.

ამ მხრივ გამორჩეული ნამუშევარია „მეფეები”. მონუმენტური, ტიპოგრაფიული საღებავით ქაღალდზე შესრულებული ტრიპტიხი (150 x 945 სმ.), რომელიც მხატვრისთვის ძალაუფლების არქეტიპის პრეზენტაციას წარმოადგენს. ექსპრესიული პლასტიკა, დინამიკური კომპოზიცია და მონუმენტური ფორმატი ფიგურებს განსაკუთრებულ ენერგეტიკას ანიჭებს, რის შედეგადაც ისინი ერთდროულად რეალურ და მითოლოგიურ არსებებად აღიქმებიან. ნამუშევარი ისტორიულ მოვლენაზე მეტად ადამიანის მარადიული ბუნებისა და ძალაუფლების სიმბოლურ გააზრებას გვთავაზობს.

ნამუშევარი პირველად „ბაია გალერეის“ თანამედროვე ხელოვნების სივრცეში (ა.რაზმძის 68) გამოფენაზე “მეფეები და სამეფო ბაღები”, 2024 წლის აპრილში გამოიფინა. გამოფენა მნიშვნელოვანი იყო იმ მხრივ, რომ ეს მხატვრის პირველი მასშტაბური პერსონალური გამოფენა იყო 2015 წლის შემდეგ. ამ ნამუშევარმა, სხვა რამდენიმე ნახატთან ერთად, საგამოფენო სივრციდან კერძო კოლექციებში გადაინაცვლა.

საინტერესოა, თუ როგორ ტოვებენ ნამუშევრები საგამოფენო კონტექსტს და ახალ გარემოში ახალ მნიშვნელობას იძენენ. გამოფენაზე ისინი დიალოგში შედიან სხვა ექსპონატებთან და კურატორულ კონცეფციასთან, ინტერიერში კი დამოუკიდებელ ვიზუალურ ცენტრად და ყოველდღიური სივრცის განუყოფელ ნაწილად იქცევიან.

გურანდა ქლიბაძე ერთ-ერთ აღიარებულ და აქტიურ თანამედროვე ქართველ მხატვრად ითვლება.

მისი ნამუშევარი „ბაღი” (ქაღალდი, ტიპოგრაფიული საღებავი, 150 x 330 სმ. 2022) 2023 წელს ლონდონში Bonhams-ის აუქციონზე 4,590 GBP (6,181 USD/16,176 GEL) გაიყიდა.
